n8n hosting

The best-known workflow automation tool — documented here, but not sold.

In short

We do not sell managed n8n hosting. Its licence restricts providing the software to others for a fee, and we will not build a product line on a question we cannot answer in writing. This page explains the licence and the alternatives we do host.

n8n is the workflow automation tool most people in this space have heard of: a node-based editor, several hundred integrations, branching and merging, code nodes when the visual layer runs out, and a well-developed set of AI and agent nodes. Self-hosting it removes the execution quotas that make the hosted plans expensive for busy workflows.

We do not sell n8n hosting. n8n is not open source in the OSI sense — it ships under the Sustainable Use License, which permits internal business use and non-commercial use but restricts providing the software to others for a fee. Plenty of hosting companies sell it anyway. We would rather not build a product line on a licence question we cannot answer in writing, so this page stays as a guide and our automation plans point at Activepieces, Windmill, Node-RED and Kestra instead.

If you already run n8n yourself and want the rest of your stack — a model gateway, a vector database, a chat front-end — hosted next to it, that we can do.

Questions

n8n hosting: your questions

Why can I buy n8n hosting elsewhere?
Because other providers read the licence differently, or hold an agreement with n8n that they do not publish. Neither of those is a defence we can rely on, so we abstain until we can answer the question with a document rather than an opinion.
Is self-hosting n8n legal for my own business?
The Sustainable Use License explicitly permits internal business use. The restriction applies to providing the software to third parties for a fee — which is what a hosting company does, and why we do not.
What should I use instead?
Activepieces for the closest SaaS-style experience, Windmill when you would rather write scripts, Node-RED for event and device flows, Kestra for scheduled data pipelines. All four are licensed for managed hosting.
Is this a shared account or my own instance?
Your own. Every plan is a single-tenant instance with its own storage, its own configuration and its own admin account. Nobody else’s workload runs inside it, and nothing you store is pooled with other customers.
Do I have to know Docker?
No. We install the application, put it behind TLS on your domain or a subdomain of ours, and hand you the login. If you do want shell-level access to your data we provide SFTP; you are never required to use it.
What is included in the monthly price?
The instance, the storage, the bandwidth, nightly off-box backups, monitoring, security patching and human support. Model tokens are not included — you bring your own provider key, so there is no markup on usage.
Can I move to a bigger plan later?
Yes, resizing is an in-place upgrade and your data stays where it is. If you outgrow the catalogue entirely we will help you export everything.
